:: history of the Pedagogic Society of Serbia ::

The long history of the Pedagogic Society of Serbia has for its duty to, at the time of implementing new technology and the philosophy of education in society, to preserve the traditional values and the results themselves. The Asociation still holds: books on the Principles of Psychology, Herbert Spenser from 1882, in its library; last century's school timetables; school regulations from the 19-th century; "The Professor's Association Herald" from 1928...
In 1924 Dr Milan Sevic, Dr Milorad Vanlic and Dr Ljubomir Protic began the first professional meetings with the aim of exploring issues concerning school and the process of education. Those were the beginnings of the development and expansion of the practice of pedagogics through the work of The Society of Pedagogues in Belgrade. On the the 25-th of December 1949 the pedagogues of the NRS held a meeting for the establishment of the Society of Pedagogues in Belgrade in the hall of the Teacher's School in the Street "Narodnog Heroja" in Belgrade . From that day not only was the Pedagogues Society initiated, but also that of Psycologists and Philosophers, at least until the forming of their own Associations. One year later, the Society of Pedagogues commences with the publishing of the "Journal of Education", while the following year it takes over from the Board of Education in publishing "Education Review", and with the cooperation of the Trade Union, publishes it in 10 000 copies in the next 3 years.
The centre of its program's activities concerned itself with scientific and examinatory works, issues of the pedagogical-methodology practiced in Educative Institutions, the participation in school reforms, the structure of Studies taught at the Department of Pedagogues in the Faculty of Arts in Belgrade.
The year of 1977 sees the transformation of The Society of Pedagogues into a Union ( The Society of Pedagogues of SR Serbia) which then enables them to establish nine regional associations including the Union of the Society of Pedagogues of Vojvodina. This period is characterised by the development and the strengthening role of pedagogues, the inclusion into the transformation process of pre-school, grade-school and secondary education.
In 1994 a Statute was adopted. In this Statute our Society redefines itself as The Associaiton of Pedagogues of Serbia. The grounds are set for its adoption into the altered political, social and materialistic circumstances. Paths are set for changes in Pedagogical Studies and Practice. The most significant activity of the Pedagogical Society of that period was the publishing of the "Journal of Education" which always had for its aim to be the centre of the most significant activities in the areas of education and the bringing up of children. The Journal is designed under the international documentary standards and has a title as being a scientific journal which was nationally acknowledged.
Through history the mission and aims of society have not changed. The only thing that has changed, though, is the manner in which it is practised and the mode of communication used.
